Job DescriptionThe District Specialized Services Coordinator supports the identification of students enrolled at Malden Public Schools who, as a result of various experiences and barriers, require access to additional support and accommodations in order to be successful in school. The Coordinator functions as the district’s coordinator of 504 accommodation plans, leads partnerships with child welfare organizations, including the Department of Children and Families (DCF), and coordinates services for students identified as homeless or at‑risk for homelessness.
Responsibilities- Schedule, coordinate, and run 504 meetings.
- Develop student 504 plans in the district’s platform for qualified students.
- Facilitate communication between school, family, and community stakeholders to support 504 plan development.
- Provide professional learning to MPS staff regarding 504 plans, eligibility requirements, and timelines.
- Ensure that MPS is in compliance with relevant State and Federal guidelines regarding 504 plans.
- Act as the Malden Public Schools point of contact for students in the Department of Children and Families (DCF) custody.
- Ensure that communication protocols are adopted at all MPS schools to define the scope and frequency of contact between DCF and MPS schools.
- Coordinate and manage transportation services for homeless students who require transportation to Malden Public Schools.
- Collaborate with DCF on Best Interest Determinations (BID) processes.
- Lead Malden Public Schools’ McKinney‑Vento Homelessness Services.
- Coordinate with building administrator teams to develop and implement tiered supports for students experiencing homelessness or child welfare issues.
- Collaborate on writing grants.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services and Program Managers.
- Current Massachusetts license in the area of Moderate/Severe Disabilities, School Adjustment Counselor, or Guidance Counselor.
- Documented experience collaborating with Child Welfare Agencies.
- Previous experience with youth Homelessness services.
- Demonstrated organizational skills.
