Mystic Valley Regional Charter School seeks a knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and highly organized English Teacher to join our Grades 7–12 English Department. The English Teacher is responsible for delivering a rigorous literature and composition curriculum grounded in the Core Knowledge sequence and the Great Books tradition. At the high school level, teachers may also be assigned courses within Mystic Valley's International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, one of the world's most respected college-preparatory curricula.
Successful candidates will demonstrate a passion for literature, writing, and language, while fostering intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and strong communication skills in students.
- Implement the documented English curriculum, including the Core Knowledge sequence, Great Books literature program, and, where applicable, International Baccalaureate (IB) coursework.
- Teach up to five daily classes within the English Department.
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with established learning objectives and curriculum standards.
- Foster student growth in reading comprehension, literary analysis, composition, grammar, and public speaking.
- Assess student performance regularly through a variety of formative and summative measures.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and complete progress reports and report cards as required.
- Administer standardized assessments as directed by the English Department Chair and school leadership.
- Collaborate regularly with department colleagues regarding curriculum, instruction, assessment practices, data analysis, and student achievement.
- Implement the school's structured classroom management and discipline model with consistency and fidelity.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development activities, and school-wide initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the English Department Chair and/or Assistant Director.
- Bachelor's degree in English, Literature, Writing, Education, or a closely related field.
- Strong knowledge of English literature, composition, grammar, and rhetoric.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to analyze data, assess student performance, and implement instructional strategies to improve outcomes.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.
- Commitment to high academic standards and a structured educational environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while maintaining individual accountability.
- Successful completion of applicable MTEL examinations within one year of employment.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
- Massachusetts teaching licensure in English (5–12).
- Experience teaching middle school and/or high school English.
- Experience with Classical Education, Great Books instruction, Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), or other academically rigorous curricula.
- Bachelor degree preferred.
This position reports directly to the English Department Chair. Employment is subject to annual appointment and evaluation in accordance with school policies.
