Oldways is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving public health by inspiring individuals and organizations to embrace the healthy, sustainable joys of the "old ways" of eating—heritage-based diets high in taste, nourishment, sustainability, and joy. Since 1990, we've helped people live healthier, happier lives by offering educational programs, resources, and recipes based on shared cultural food traditions from around the world.
Our efforts span consumer advocacy (Oldways Whole Grains Council), heritage diet travel and discovery (Oldways Culinarias), guidance (Oldways Cheese Coalition), as well as the education and celebration of African, Asian, Latin American, and Mediterranean cultural eating traditions.
The Marketing Communications Intern will work with the Marketing Communications Director to implement strategies to promote Oldways' food and nutrition programs and advance our presence as a thought leader in the food and nutrition world.
Main responsibilities will include:- Create graphics for and post on social media with an eye on the Oldways brand.
- Work with the Marketing Communications Director to establish consistent posting routines for different platforms and accounts.
- Write and edit blog content.
- Write, edit and send email newsletter campaigns.
- Update monthly analytics: website, sales, social media and newsletters.
- Proofread studies, travel programs, incoming blog posts and other content.
- Collaborate and conceptualize with all departments and work independently after being given project goals and creative guidelines.
- Participate in the development of additional standard workflows and processes for marketing activities.
- B.A. or student studying communications, marketing, or a related field
- Exceptional writing skills, including grammar, spelling and punctuation – knowledge of AP Style preferred
- Expertise with the Microsoft Office suite
- Experience with social media platforms including Instagram, Tik Tok, Facebook and Linked In
- Familiarity with Canva
- Attention to detail and an ability to work on multiple projects at once
- A passion for food and nutrition and a commitment to Oldways' mission Preferred Skills/Knowledge
- Familiarity with Substack, Sprout Social, and newsletter platforms such as Constant Contact or Mail Chimp
- Experience creating and editing videos
- Working knowledge of Adobe suite, including Adobe Premiere
Schedule and Compensation 40 hours per week. (8 hours per day) Compensation: $24/hour.
