Position: Organic Gardener (Part Time)

The Ranch Malibu is a luxury wellness retreat dedicated to health, fitness, and mindful living. Our team provides an unparalleled guest experience in a serene, restorative environment.

The Organic Gardener is responsible for cultivating and maintaining the retreat’s gardens and landscapes using sustainable, chemical-free practices. This role ensures that the grounds not only reflect natural beauty but also support the retreat’s mission of wellness, harmony, and environmental stewardship. The gardener will nurture spaces that provide fresh produce, herbs, and flowers for guest enjoyment and retreat programs.

Key Responsibilities Garden & Landscape Care
  • Plan, plant, and maintain fruit, vegetable, herb, and flower gardens using organic practices.
  • Prune, weed, mulch, compost, and fertilize using sustainable, non-toxic methods.
  • Maintain walking gardens, meditation landscapes, and sensory areas that enhance the retreat experience.
  • Monitor soil health, irrigation systems, and seasonal planting cycles.
Sustainable Practices
  • Implement permaculture and regenerative gardening techniques when possible.
  • Manage composting systems and support zero-waste initiatives.
  • Promote biodiversity by cultivating pollinator-friendly and native plants.
Harvest & Guest Experience
  • Harvest organic produce and herbs for use in retreat kitchens, teas, and spa treatments.
  • Collaborate with other gardeners, shift leaders, management, culinary and wellness teams to align garden offerings with retreat programs.
  • Create visually appealing and serene outdoor spaces that foster guest relaxation and mindfulness.
Maintenance & Safety
  • Operate gardening tools and equipment safely.
  • Ensure outdoor spaces are hazard-free and guest-ready at all times.
  • Keep detailed records of planting schedules, soil amendments, and organic inputs.
  • Care for livestock:
    Chickens, Ducks, Pet Goats and Cat with clean food, water, medicine and bedding. Ensure animals are secure and in safe areas upon end of day.
  • Provide The Ranch Guests with tours and produce samples from the Garden.
  • Monitor irrigation system, repair maintain and hand water as needed.
  • Harvest ripe produce twice per week, and as requested by the Culinary Team.
  • Maintain vegetable beds in a productive and presentable manner by weeding, mulching, fertilizing, irrigating, and re-planning as needed.
  • Assist with garden spray applications and a comprehensive integrated pest management program.
  • Ensure the Greenhouse maintenance and upkeep.
  • Repel garden pests and rodents using approved protocols.
  • Maintain garden Café for guests dining, clean tables and fresh flowers.
  • Report any broken pipes, electrical or structural issues needing repair or attention to maintenance.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience in organic gardening, horticulture, or sustainable farming.
  • Knowledge of permaculture, soil health, composting, and eco-friendly pest management.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to seasonal changes.
  • Physical stamina for outdoor work in varied weather conditions.
  • Passion for wellness, sustainability, and creating nurturing environments.
Work Environment &

Physical Requirements
  • Outdoor setting within a tranquil wellness retreat.
  • Flexible schedule with occasional weekend or event support.
  • Collaborative interaction with kitchen, spa, and hospitality teams.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 - 40 lbs.
  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Walking on outdoor terrains with uneven surfaces.
