Mechanic, Trades ​/ Skilled Labor

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor entry-level mechanics, oversee daily work/performance, inspect installations/repairs, ensure all safety standards and practices are met.
• Make repairs on job sites as needed.
• Conduct inspections of vehicles and equipment to diagnose and troubleshoot problems for repair.
• Repair and maintain construction equipment of various types and sizes from light-duty to over‑the‑road trucks and from light-duty to heavy‑duty operating equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance following operations manuals as well as electrical and hydraulic diagrams and air conditioning units.
• Remove and replace defective parts by dismantling devices using hand and power tools.
• Test repaired equipment to ensure proper performance.
• May fabricate, weld, and cut parts using arc‑welding, wire feed, and flame cutting equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
• Perform Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). inspections.

• Ability to quickly learn and understand various processes regarding MGE’s policies, procedures, and software programs.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work and drive safely in all weather and road conditions.
• Ability to work flexible hours and days, including nights, weekends, and extended hours.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics.
• Valid Class C Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
• Desired:
  Valid Class A Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
• Certifications in:
  Air Conditioning, Computer Diagnostics, Boom Inspections, Welding, Hydraulics, BIT, and Air Brakes.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in heavy‑duty equipment service and repair.
• Minimum 4 years of experience with hydraulics, diesel engines, and DOT/BIT.
• One year experience with air brakes.
• One year experience with vehicle electrical and computer controlled systems.
• Welding and fabrication experience.

Pay: $40.00 - $53.00 per hour. Pay determined based on experience, education, skills, and applicable knowledge.
