Under general supervision, the Assistant Engineer performs entry‑level professional civil engineering work in support of public works, transportation, land development, environmental, and infrastructure projects within Mono County. The position assists with engineering analysis, project management, field inspections, plan review, grant administration, and preparation of technical documents related to public and private development projects. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an early‑career engineering professional to develop technical expertise, project management skills, and knowledge of public infrastructure systems while serving the residents and communities of Mono County.
Responsibilities- Assist with construction administration and reviewing development plans and permits.
- Conduct engineering calculations, research, and supporting traffic and environmental studies.
- Prepare cost estimates and specifications and collect field data.
- Coordinate with developers, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Support grant‑funded projects, County standards development, and infrastructure planning efforts.
The ideal candidate is a motivated and detail‑oriented emerging engineering professional eager to build a long‑term career in public works and civil engineering. The candidate possesses a strong technical foundation in engineering principles, is analytical, adaptable, and collaborative, and can balance office‑based technical work with field inspections and project coordination responsibilities. Effective communication, customer service orientation, and the ability to work in both office and outdoor environments are essential.
- Experience or familiarity with AutoCAD or Civil3D, public project management, CEQA/NEPA processes, grant administration, surveying, traffic studies, and development review (highly desirable).
- Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification or pursuit of one, with initiative, professionalism, and strong problem‑solving abilities.
