This is a professional level Civil Engineering Position that operates with minimal supervision to develop projects. Tasks range from obtaining funding, gaining environmental and community approvals, through support in preparation of Plans, Specifications, and Estimates. This position provides project delivery including Board updates and resolutions and working with consultants and contractors for project survey, construction, and inspection. It is expected that the incumbent will sign engineering documents and prepare information as necessary for local, state and federal funding sources.

They are detail-oriented and analytical, with the ability to interpret plans, data, and regulations to support sound engineering decisions. This individual is adaptable and eager to learn, capable of managing multiple assignments in both office and field environments. They demonstrate sound judgment, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work that supports safe and sustainable infrastructure. A collaborative mindset, professionalism in public interactions, and the ability to contribute to a team-oriented environment are essential. Candidates who bring experience with engineering software, project coordination, and regulatory compliance will be especially well-suited for this role.

Department

Overview

The Public Works Department is responsible for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of the County’s infrastructure, including roads, bridges, drainage systems, airports, and other public facilities. The department plays a critical role in supporting public safety, environmental stewardship, and the overall quality of life for residents and visitors.

Mono County is a rural region with a dynamic community of 13,000 residents located in the eastern side of California’s Sierra Nevada range. Training and Experience

Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities might be:

A 4-year degree in Civil Engineering, along with a minimum of 4 years of experience working directly with a Registered Professional Civil Engineer in the planning, design and execution of Civil Engineering Projects.

Special Requirements

Possession of a driver’s license valid in California.
