Psychiatric Specialist I/II/III

The Psychiatric Specialist I/II/III provides professional behavioral health services to individuals, children, and families experiencing mental health, substance use, and related behavioral health challenges. This position conducts comprehensive assessments, develops treatment plans, provides individual and group therapy, responds to behavioral health crises, and collaborates with healthcare providers, schools, law enforcement, probation, and community organizations to ensure coordinated care. As employees progress through the series, they assume increasingly complex clinical responsibilities, greater independence in case management, and, at the advanced level, program development, administrative, and coordination duties.

This position plays a vital role in improving community wellness by delivering compassionate, evidence-based behavioral health services while promoting prevention, education, and recovery.

The ideal candidate is a compassionate, clinically skilled behavioral health professional who is committed to improving the lives of individuals and families facing mental health and substance use challenges. They possess excellent assessment and therapeutic counseling skills, exercise sound clinical judgment, and remain calm and effective when responding to crisis situations. They build trust quickly, communicate with empathy and professionalism, and maintain strict confidentiality while working with clients from diverse cultural, social, and economic backgrounds.

Successful candidates value collaboration and work effectively with physicians, psychiatrists, schools, probation, law enforcement, social service agencies, and other community partners to coordinate comprehensive care. They are organized, detail-oriented, and capable of maintaining accurate clinical documentation while managing a diverse caseload. At the advanced level, the ideal candidate also demonstrates leadership through program development, supervision, policy implementation, grant writing, and continuous improvement of behavioral health services to meet the evolving needs of the community.
