Role DescriptionThe Compliance Officer is a full‑time, on‑site role based in Manama in Bahrain. This role is responsible for monitoring and ensuring adherence to internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards relevant to trade credit insurance and receivables financing. Day‑to‑day tasks include reviewing and updating compliance frameworks, conducting risk assessments, preparing reports for management, and guiding operational teams on compliance procedures. The Compliance Officer will collaborate with finance and commercial teams to evaluate client transactions, support audits, and respond to regulatory inquiries.
The role also involves training staff on compliance best practices and contributing to continuous improvement of controls and processes.
- Take responsibility in all AML, CTF, sanctions, and financial crime matters and Strong understanding of FATF guidelines and regulatory requirements in Bahrain
- Assist in managing day‑to‑day engagement with Central Bank of Bahrain including responses to enquiries, inspections, thematic reviews, and audits.
- Prepare, review, and where appropriate filing regulatory reports, including STRs/SARs to the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU Bahrain), and other mandated submissions.
- Help ensure that the firm remains up to date with Central Bank of Bahrain AML/CFT legislation, implementing regulations, guidance, & Governance
- Perform in the design, maintenance and continuous enhancement of the AML/CTF compliance program, tailored to the risks inherent in Credit insurance.
- Support the development and periodic review of the Business Risk Assessment and AML Risk Assessment, ensuring that emerging risks are captured and reflected in controls.
- Draft, review, and periodically update policies, standards, and procedures covering KYC / CDD, EDD, ongoing monitoring, sanctions screening, PEP handling and suspicious activity reporting, Conflict of Interest, Whistle Blowing, Anti Bribery & Corruption.
- Contribute to the preparation of MLRO reports and Compliance dashboard to senior management and the Board, providing clear, data‑led insight into financial crime risk, control performance, and remediation status.
- Oversee, the implementation of risk‑based KYC/CDD frameworks for institutional, and high‑risk clients, ensuring alignment with CENTRAL BANK OF BAHRAIN.
- Oversee the handling of alerts, investigations, and case management, ensuring that suspicious activity/transaction is identified, escalated, documented, and reported to the FIU‑Bahrain in a timely and robust manner.
- Support in designing and operating the sanctions and screening program, including real‑time and batch screening of customers, transactions against relevant sanctions lists and watchlists.
- Oversee complex sanctions‑related investigations and escalations, ensuring a defensible and well‑governed approach to list matches, potential breaches, and reporting obligations.
- Maintain close awareness of global sanctions developments impacting the business and help translate them into clear internal requirements.
- Contribute to the financial crime strategy, aligning it with group standards while tailoring to local regulatory expectations and market realities.
- Expertise in using, configuring and overseeing AML software tools to monitor suspicious transactions, detect unusual activity patterns, and ensure compliance with regulatory reporting obligations. Knowledge of international sanctions screening software and ensuring the company is not doing business with blacklisted entities or individuals.
