The Scaffolding Inspector is a critical safety and technical role responsible for the systematic inspection, verification, and certification of all scaffolding structures on the project site. This position ensures that all scaffolds are erected, modified, maintained, and dismantled in strict compliance with the project's safety manual, local regulations, and recognized industry standards (e.g., OSHA, local codes).
CoreDuties & Responsibilities
- Pre-Use Inspection: Conduct thorough inspections of new, modified, or relocated scaffolds before they are used by workers, issuing official tags (green/red) to indicate status.
- Routine Audits: Perform periodic safety audits on all in-use scaffolding to check for structural integrity, secure tie-ins, proper decking, guardrail height, and access points.
- Compliance Verification: Ensure all scaffolding design, material, and erection methods comply with the approved method statement and regulatory requirements.
- Defect Reporting: Immediately report any damaged, incomplete, or non-compliant scaffolding to the HSE team and responsible supervisor, initiating immediate corrective actions.
- Documentation & Tagging: Maintain detailed records of all inspections, including dates, locations, defects found, and corrective actions. Manage the strict scaffold tagging system
. - Liaison: Work closely with the Scaffolding Foreman and Site HSE personnel to ensure any issues are resolved quickly and safely before operations resume.
- Experience: Proven experience in scaffolding erection and inspection, typically requiring 3+ years of direct experience in the construction or industrial sector.
- Certification: Must possess a valid, recognized Scaffolding Inspector Certificate from an approved training provider.
- Technical Knowledge: Expert knowledge of scaffolding components, load capacities, anchoring requirements, and structural integrity.
- Safety Standards: In-depth familiarity with relevant local and international scaffolding safety standards (e.g., OSHA, EN standards).
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous ability to spot subtle structural defects or compliance failures.
- Communication: Clear and firm communication skills to stop unsafe work and educate workers on safe access.
