Salary Range: $20.40 – $31.83 per hour ($24,934 – $38,897 per year) based on the 2025‑26 salary scale.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Develop understanding of each student’s specific disability; maintain proper training and certification if required; understand individual learning style and need for accommodations relevant to instructional, behavioral, health‑related, or emergency plans.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Deliver non‑emergency health‑related services as specified in students’ Health Treatment Plans.
  • Provide emergency treatment procedures to students as needed.
  • Utilize universal precautions whenever student bodily fluids are present.
  • Prepare instructional materials.
  • Assist with maintaining attendance and cumulative records.
  • Work with individual students or small groups at the direction of the teacher.
  • Assist with classroom management plan.
  • Act as a role model for courtesy and proper school behavior.
  • Check student work, including objective test materials.
  • Work cooperatively with the substitute teacher in providing instruction and assistance to students.
  • Assist with housekeeping chores and bulletin boards.
  • Assist in or supervise students during any school‑sponsored activities occurring during the school day, regardless of location.
  • Assist in the safe and orderly mobilization of all students, including those physically disabled, to and from all school environments.
  • Assist with clerical tasks; maintain inventory of materials assigned to the program and classroom, and procure and use media equipment.
  • Assist students with dressing, toileting, braces, position, and matters relating to personal hygiene, health‑related services, and emergency plans as needed; change and launder soiled clothing when required.
  • Assist students during seizures or other medical incidents and thereafter, as necessary, following training.
  • Assist in feeding students who are unable to feed themselves.
  • Supervise students at all times, including providing coverage when the teacher is in planning, meetings, lunch, etc.
  • Support the teacher’s efforts to provide a consistent approach in interacting with disabled students.
  • Accompany students to mainstreamed classes, assisting with tasks that would otherwise be difficult or impossible due to disability, or remain with non‑mainstream students as directed.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Work with various ability levels of students.
  • Communicate effectively with students, teachers, parents, and other school personnel.
  • Follow written and oral instructions in carrying out tasks related to instructional, behavioral, emergency, and health‑related plans.
  • Minimum education:

    High School diploma or GED.
  • At least one year of experience as a teacher assistant or related paid/volunteer work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders, maintain cooperative relationships, communicate effectively, interact with a diverse student and employee population, attend regularly, use relevant technology, participate in professional growth planning, and uphold a high standard of personal and professional conduct.
Work Environment

The position is performed in indoor school settings such as classrooms and offices. Employees may encounter typical indoor classroom conditions, including noise, computer screen exposure, crowded spaces, and occasional heating or cooling issues.
