ELEMENTARY PE TEACHER – 195 DAY

This full‑time position plans and implements an instructional program for students in grades K‑5. The teacher manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, and modifies instructional activities as required. The teacher may also be assigned to reading or technology labs and works under the general supervision of the principal or another designated administrator.
Essential Responsibilities- Implement an instructional program that differentiates instruction to meet each student’s learning needs.
- Plan and deliver instruction in accordance with the Prince William County curriculum.
- Assess student abilities relative to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes.
- Determine appropriate instructional strategies, classroom organization, and materials.
- Manage learner behavior in the classroom and assist in school‑wide behavior management; ensure student safety during all school activities.
- Collaborate in planning and evaluating the school program and instructional activities.
- Request assistance from resource personnel and coordinate with professional staff on‑ and off‑school to maximize learning opportunities.
- Adhere to ethical standards of the profession and enforce district policies and regulations.
- Communicate promptly and accurately with parents, staff, and the administration.
- Document student progress and follow county disciplinary procedures.
- Participate in the school and district professional development program.
- Minimum:
Bachelor’s degree. - Certification:
Virginia teacher certification with endorsement(s) for elementary physical education. - Knowledge of the instructional process, content, and curriculum for elementary school grades K‑5.
- Understanding of pre‑adolescent development and assessment of student learning.
- Skill in using multimedia and computer technology for instructional enhancement.
- Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to apply research, theory, and data to instructional planning and practice.
- For positions involving travel or off‑site duties: valid Virginia driver’s license.
The teacher works primarily indoors in a standard classroom setting. Responsibilities include exposure to common classroom conditions such as noise and limited heating or cooling. The position requires flexibility for occasional outdoor activities on school grounds.
