Job Summary

Plans and implements an instructional program and provides related educational services for students. Manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, and modifies instructional activities as required. Serves as a general education classroom teacher; classes may be single or multi‑grade, subject, skill, or specialty‑oriented. Works within a team or department, may work independently in unique teaching specialties, may be assigned to labs requiring greater monitoring, and performs work under the general supervision of a principal or administrator.

Responsibilities
  • Assesses student achievement continually and maintains appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation.
  • Plans and implements appropriate instructional and/or learning strategies and activities, including determination of appropriate materials and level, provides appropriate learning experiences, manages allocated learning time, and utilizes a variety of instructional materials and technology to enhance learning.
  • Manages the behavior of learners in the instructional setting, ensuring a conducive environment, and assists in managing student behavior in other parts of the school.
  • Coordinates instructional activities with other professional staff, both within and outside the school.
  • Works in a self‑contained, team, departmental, itinerant capacity, or may make off‑school site visits to monitor students, confer with employers, or oversee site instructors.
  • Participates in in‑service and professional development activities and staff meetings.
  • Fosters partnerships and maintains continuous communication with parents, both written and oral, to keep them informed of student progress.
  • Communicates continually with students on instructional expectations.
  • Assigns work to and supervises instructional assistants, parent and student volunteers.
  • Serves at two or more schools on a regular basis as itinerant.
  • Supports or participates in school‑wide student activities and social events.
  • Monitors student behavior in non‑instructional areas and intervenes to control disruptive behavior, reporting to the appropriate administrator as required.
  • Collaborates with other professionals (guidance counselors, librarians, etc.) to carry out school‑wide instructional or related activities as needed.
