JOB SUMMARY:
The Title I Elementary Math Teacher is responsible for supporting Tier I and Tier II Math instruction aligned with Virginia Department of Education Instructional standards and National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) effective math teaching practices. This position collaborates with school instructional staff and leadership to provide targeted mathematics support without supplanting existing staffing or roles within school district allocations.
The teacher will serve as a K-5 mathematics teacher leader, focusing on assisting teachers with differentiated instruction, intervention instruction, and data-driven decision-making to accelerate student learning in accordance with Title I, Part A grant requirements, and PWCS policies.

Essential Responsibilities- Partner with K-5 mathematics teachers and collaborate with school leadership to develop and implement effective Tier 1 and Tier 2 mathematics instruction, ensuring equitable access and alignment with lessons promoting reasoning and the concrete representational abstract (CRA) approaches approved by PWCS Student Learning Department and the VDOE.
- Provide co-teaching opportunities and/or mathematics Tier II intervention support based on school needs.
- Demonstrate expertise in interpreting formal and informal diagnostic data to inform instruction for acceleration and provide targeted Tier II interventions.
- Support classroom teachers in Tier I and Tier II mathematics instruction to enhance instructional practices and student outcomes.
- Collaborate with school and division programs (ESOL, SPED, Gifted) to support math instruction across all student groups, ensuring equitable access to high-quality education.
- Serve as a liaison between the school and Title I administration, ensuring compliance with all Title I, Part A grant requirements, including family engagement activities and fiscal management of Title I funds.
- Prepare and maintain required documentation for Title I, Part A grant compliance, including agendas, meeting minutes, intent forms, student data, and adhering to established timelines.
- Participate in professional development at the school and division levels, disseminating information and instructional strategies to school staff to support continuous improvement in literacy instruction.
- Facilitate data-driven conversations with teachers, administrators, and parents, presenting assessment data in an understandable manner and providing actionable steps for future Tier II instructional interventions.
- Coordinate instructional activities and collaborate with school and division professional staff to maximize learning opportunities and enhance math outcomes for all students.
- Manage the behavior of learners in a Tier II instructional setting to ensure the environment is conducive to learning and assist in managing student behavior in other parts of the school, school grounds, and during lunch.
- Coordinate at least four Title I teacher meetings per year to discuss effective parent and family engagement plans and showcase exemplary family events.
- Assist in ensuring Title I parent and family engagement plans are written within guidelines and include strong family engagement practices.
- Ensure policies are accessible and understandable to all Title I parents and families.
- Ensure that Title I schools seek input from parents and families to collaboratively develop the Family-School Compact.
- Strong understanding of evidence-based math instruction, including differentiation and tier II intervention strategies.
- Ability to administer and interpret assessments and use data to drive instructional planning and decision-making.
- Knowledge of curriculum and instructional practices aligned with VDOE-approved programs, with experience working in Tier II small group settings.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills to work effectively with teachers, parents, administrators, and other school and division staff.
- Knowledge in supporting Collaborative Learning Teams.
- Understanding of Title I requirements, family engagement strategies, and fiscal compliance related to federal funding.
Minimum:
Bachelor's Degree
Possession of a Collegiate Professional, Post Graduate Professional, or appropriate vocational license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with endorsements required for teaching assignment. Must be eligible for Virginia Teacher Certification Program or licensure.
