Literacy & Assessment Specialist

APTS is searching for a Literacy and Assessment Specialist. Monday - Friday, 7:30 am-3:30 pm.

Employee’s duties include, but are not limited to:

Research, develop, implement, and adapt evidence-based school-wide literacy curriculum and technologies for grades K-12 to enhance reading instruction and student performance

Conduct and evaluate literacy assessments for students grades K-12 in coordination with Teacher, Educational Supervisor, and LEAsParticipate in Standards of Learning, alternate assessment, and other diagnostic testing as appropriate for level of training and student need Develop and implement appropriate individualized student literacy plans based on results of psycho-educational and other assessments in collaboration with instructional staff, speech, occupational, physical therapists, or other IEP mandated service providers

Include with the plans a list of materials (e.g., books, manipulative, puzzles, etc.) needed for each lesson

Ensure that all materials are available and disseminated to staff at time of implementation of instruction

Process with staff daily to ensure awareness of schedule and instructional activities

Coordinate and schedule SOL and ASOL testing Point of Contact for testing coordinator in each county

Maintain student library and its database while selecting student age and reading proficiency appropriate materials

Provide training to staff to enhance literacy instruction in support of classroom and vocational/community-based reading activities

Provide individual student remedial instructional, as necessary, to support academic and vocational tasks

Job Qualifications:

Master’s degree in education or a related field from an accredited university

Possess a valid Virginia Teacher’s License with a Special Education Endorsement and Reading Specialist In lieu of a 5-year Renewable Virginia Teacher’s License, an initial 3-year Non-Renewable Virginia Teacher’s License may qualify the individual if he/she is actively working toward a 5-year license with the appropriate endorsement, and possesses the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job functions
