Position Overview
At Aurora Flight Sciences, we design, build, and fly advanced aircraft and enabling technologies from concept to reality. We are searching for a talented and self-motivated Avionics/Aircraft Assembly & Build Technician UAS to help us create the future of flight. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
Responsibilities- Build and assembly:
Demonstrated proficiency performing hands-on assembly of mechanical and electrical components according to engineering blueprints, schematics, and work instructions. Proficiency with machine/tools (laser cutter, water cutter, CNC mills, various hand tools). - Testing and quality assurance:
Conduct pre-flight, post-flight, and quality-control checks to ensure the drone operates correctly and meets performance standards. Operate test equipment such as circuit testers and multimeters as needed. - Troubleshooting and repair:
Diagnose and repair hardware and software malfunctions, including replacing or adjusting electronic, mechanical, and hydraulic components. - Software and electronics:
Install, configure, and update firmware and software for flight control systems. Hand solder PCBs (Printed Circuit Boards) and wiring as required, following proper ESD precautions. - Flight operations:
Assist with system-level testing activities and conduct test flights to validate performance and tune systems. - Documentation:
Complete work orders, test reports, and maintenance logs. Help document and refine assembly instructions and test procedures. - Inventory and equipment management:
Track parts and equipment and ensure tools and test equipment are checked and maintained. - Collaboration:
Work with a team of technicians and engineers to improve product quality and resolve assembly challenges.
- Education/experience typically acquired through high school diploma/GED and typically 1 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g., vocational school/Associate).
- General knowledge of hand tools.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instruction.
- Valid Driver's License required and ability to obtain airport access card.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
- Must be a US Person.
- Education and training:
An associate degree or certification in electronics. - 2 to 5 years of experience.
- Technical knowledge:
Strong understanding of electronics, mechanical systems, and software integration. - Hands-on experience:
Experience with hardware assembly, using hand and power tools, soldering. Fine motor skills; assembly a must. Proficiency with machine/hands tools (laser cutter, water cutter, CNC mills, various hand tools). - Problem-solving abilities:
Diagnostics and troubleshooting hardware and software issues. - Attention to detail:
Meticulous approach to ensure high-quality standards and accuracy in assembly. - Communication skills:
Strong verbal and written communication for documenting work, creating procedures, and collaborating with the team. - Regulatory knowledge:
Understanding of aviation regulations and safety standards, especially FAA Part 107 certification for drone operations. - Adaptability:
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects concurrently. - Military Training / Experience in UAS build and support.
- A&P License.
- Ability to work in a hangar/manufacturing environment and wear proper PPE.
- Follow Boeing regulations for lifting; consistently stand, stoop, crawl, bend, crouch, climb, and kneel.
- May be required to support extended hours.
- Work onsite daily in Manassas, VA.
- Minimum Range: $31,200.00 to $55,000.00
- Maximum Range: $36,000.00 to $64,000.00
