Senior Construction Materials Testing & Inspection Engineer

A well-established engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Construction Materials Testing & Inspection Engineer to join its growing team in Northern Virginia. This opportunity is ideal for a licensed Professional Engineer with extensive experience in construction materials testing, special inspections, and quality assurance on complex public and private sector projects.
The successful candidate will play a key role in both technical delivery and operational leadership, working closely with senior management to support project execution, client development, staff mentoring, and business growth initiatives. Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage construction materials testing and special inspection projects from inception through completion.
- Coordinate field and laboratory testing activities to ensure compliance with industry standards and project specifications.
- Oversee and mentor inspectors, engineering technicians, and laboratory personnel.
- Review testing and inspection reports for accuracy and quality.
- Prepare quality assurance reports and non‑conformance documentation as required.
- Manage testing and inspection of construction materials including soils, concrete, masonry, asphalt, fireproofing, structural steel, and site development elements.
- Serve as Engineer of Record for special inspections and third‑party inspection services where required.
- Collaborate with clients, contractors, architects, and design teams throughout project delivery.
- Support business development activities, client relationship management, proposal preparation, and project pursuits.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licence in Virginia.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Construction Materials Testing & Inspection (CMTI).
- Strong understanding of special inspections, quality assurance processes, and applicable industry standards.
- Proven leadership experience managing technical teams and mentoring staff.
- Excellent communication and client‑facing skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel locally as required.
