Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager - Manassas, VA

Shibuya Hoppmann has an immediate opening in our Manassas, VA (with support for Lynchburg, VA; Indianapolis, IN; and Tipp City, OH) office
for an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager

Position Summary

The EHS Manager will lead all environmental, health, and safety programs for a manufacturing operation specializing in automation and packaging machinery. This role supports a primary facility in Lynchburg, VA and provides oversight for other offices.

The position is responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance, advancing machine and electrical safety programs, minimizing risk and fostering a proactive safety culture in a hands-on, engineering-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities Safety & Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and applicable state/local regulations
  • Lead site audits, inspections, and compliance reporting
  • Manage incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
Machine & Electrical Safety (Critical Focus)
  • Develop and enforce machine guarding, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and electrical safety programs
  • Partner with engineering and maintenance teams on safe equipment design and modifications
  • Support risk assessments for new equipment, automation systems, and installations
  • Provide EHS oversight and program alignment for Lynchburg and other locations
  • Standardize policies, procedures, and safety metrics across offices
  • Travel periodically to support training, audits, and implementation
Environmental & Sustainability
  • Manage environmental compliance (waste handling, air emissions, stormwater, etc.)
  • Maintain permits and required reporting
  • Support sustainability initiatives, including waste reduction and energy efficiency
  • Oversee chemical safety, hazardous material handling, waste management, and emergency response programs
Training & Culture
  • Develop and deliver safety training (LOTO, machine safety, electrical awareness, PPE)
  • Partner with plant leadership to drive accountability and engagement
  • Promote a culture of safety integrated with engineering and production priorities
  • Track and report KPIs (TRIR, near misses, corrective actions)
  • Lead initiatives to reduce risk and improve operational safety performance
  • Support implementation of ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 (if applicable)
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in EHS, Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of EHS experience in manufacturing or industrial environments
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations
  • Experience with machine safety, LOTO, and industrial equipment
  • Authorized to work in the United States for any employer
Preferred
  • Experience in automation, machinery, or equipment manufacturing
  • Multi-site EHS responsibility
  • CSP, CIH, or similar certification
  • Familiarity with electrical safety standards (NFPA 70E)
  • ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 experience
  • Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills
