Supervises Positions:
JOB SUMMARYSupervise, assess, and monitor patients during cardiac and pulmonary rehab including exercise therapy and education sessions. Coordinate patient care and respond to emergency situations. Evaluate and recruit potential candidates for Cardiac Rehabilitation.
QUALIFICATIONS Education4 Year/Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Experience2 years of experience in Telemetry, Critical Care, and/or Step-down unit required. Experience in Physician Practice Environment and at least 5 years of cardiovascular nursing preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required. American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR), or obtained in 1 year of employment. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.
LicensureCurrent RN licensure in applicable state required. Membership on AACVPR preferred.
Additional Skills/Requirements RequiredAbility to manage cardiac patients, previous experience caring for critical care patients, knowledge of EKG rhythms using stress tests, electrocardiograms and vascular monitoring. Practical and theoretical knowledge of all phases of routine and critical cardiac and respiratory care, with an emphasis on adult, chronic disease management. Abilities to perform decisively in critical situations and to incorporate many types of data. Has the knowledge, skills, and ability to interpret information to identify each patient’s requirements for care relative to his/her age specific needs.
Has the ability to supervise exercise, monitor patients during exercise, and modify exercise prescriptions for cardio-pulmonary patients, in conjunction with exercise physiologists. Has effective communication and interpersonal skills to relate to patients, families, nurses, physicians and other department and hospital staff. Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing.
