Position: Scada Engineer (Full-Time) (Onsite 5 days a week in Manassas, VA)

Scada Engineer – Onsite, Manassas, VA

Location:

Manassas, VA (5 days per week onsite)

Salary: $100K - $140K Base Salary + Bonus

Must Haves
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field from an accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting SCADA systems.
  • Must have SCADA experience within the electric utility industry.
  • Proficiency with Windows operating systems, Linux, Microsoft Office, virtualization, access control/authorization, security event monitoring, and configuration‑management software.
  • Proficiency in administering, programming, and troubleshooting real‑time SCADA systems and displays.
  • Knowledge of Power System Operations concepts, processes, and procedures.
  • Basic understanding of NERC CIP standards.
  • Ability to work 5 days onsite in Manassas, VA.

My Client is a locally owned electric distribution system headquartered in Manassas, VA that provides reliable electric service to more than 180,000 homes and businesses.

Overview

The role involves configuring, maintaining, and supporting the SCADA and Load Management infrastructure to ensure reliable, safe, and secure operations. The engineer maintains compliance with applicable regulatory standards and works closely with key vendors and internal teams.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design, configure, and maintain the SCADA and Load Management infrastructure in accordance with policies, regulatory standards, and industry best practices.
  • Document tasks to demonstrate compliance with regulatory standards, including infrastructure changes, compliance assessments, testing of significant changes, system configurations, access reviews, and equipment disposal.
  • Oversee procedures and practices related to the physical and cyber security of the SCADA system.
  • Program SCADA systems to communicate with field equipment such as IEDs, RTUs, and meters.
  • Maintain and support SCADA servers, databases, data historian, one‑lines, map board, operator training, historian, and engineering workstations, as well as related Electric Operations systems.
  • Manage relationships with key hardware and software vendors.
  • Create and update SCADA operator displays and databases.
  • Coordinate with Power Supply to implement peak‑demand load‑shedding programs.
  • Execute departmental functions related to the OT Cyber Security Plan and the OT Cyber Incident Response Plan.
  • Coordinate SCADA infrastructure and display activities with Electric Operations staff.
  • Coordinate ICCP database and data exchange with external entities.
  • Participate in internal and external audits as a subject matter expert.
  • Provide technical support to internal staff for maintained systems.
  • Direct and assist in recovery efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent experience.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting SCADA systems.
  • SCADA experience within the electric utility industry.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong computer and networking skills.
  • Proficiency with Windows, Linux, Microsoft Office, virtualization, access control/authorization, security event monitoring, and configuration‑management software.
  • Proficiency in administering, programming, and troubleshooting real‑time SCADA systems and displays.
  • Knowledge of Power System Operations concepts, processes, and procedures.
  • Basic understanding of NERC CIP standards.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with people of varying technical skill levels.
  • Ability to manage projects and time effectively to meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with little supervision.
