Assistant Project Manager
The Assistant Project Manager supports the project management team across the Maryland, Washington, DC, and Virginia markets, with a primary focus on a new data center project in Manassas, VA. This role carries full responsibility for assigned electrical projects, including estimating, cost control, forecasting, scheduling, and overseeing work through final completion. The Assistant Project Manager serves as the primary point of contact for management and coordinates the project team to ensure all project goals are achieved on time, within scope, and within budget.
Responsibilities
- Manage all financial aspects of assigned electrical projects through ongoing job forecasting and cost control.
- Support project estimating efforts and prepare accurate budgets and updates throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure that all projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget by actively monitoring progress and addressing issues promptly.
- Communicate regularly with forepersons and field teams to clearly define job expectations, goals, and performance standards.
- Serve as management's point of contact for assigned projects and coordinate the job team to meet project objectives.
- Report project status to management and escalate issues or risks as needed to maintain schedule and budget.
- Create, organize, and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including logs, reports, and records.
- Meet with clients to gather detailed project requirements, clarify expectations, and document ordering and scope details.
- Track project performance and analyze progress toward successful completion of short-term milestones and long-term goals.
- Prepare and estimate change orders for assigned projects, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project scope and contracts.
- Manage all job closeout procedures, including documentation, punch lists, and final deliverables.
- Utilize project management tools and platforms, including Procore, to manage RFIs, change orders, and submittals.
- Apply knowledge of National Electrical Codes (NEC) to support compliance and quality across all project activities.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of working experience in project management within the Maryland, Washington, DC, and Virginia markets.
- Experience working on commercial construction projects.
- Proficiency with Procore or similar construction management software.
- Hands-on experience managing RFIs, change orders, and submittals.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent client-facing communication skills with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships.
- Excellent internal communication skills to collaborate effectively with project teams and leadership.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities for clear documentation and reporting.
- Solid organizational skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- LEED experience is preferred and considered a plus.
- Experience supporting multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Ability to interpret project specifications, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues early and propose practical solutions.
- Interest in long-term employment with opportunities for contract-to-hire transition.
- Ability to work effectively in both data center and broader commercial project settings.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Manassas, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $85000.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
