The Shop Service Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the operational readiness and safety of rental equipment within the Rental and Leasing Services industry. This position involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of machinery and equipment to meet company standards and customer expectations. The technician will work closely with the service team to perform routine inspections, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and execute preventive maintenance tasks.
By maintaining equipment reliability and minimizing downtime, the technician directly contributes to customer satisfaction and the overall efficiency of rental operations. This role requires a detail-oriented and proactive approach to equipment care, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience as a service technician or mechanic, preferably in rental equipment or heavy machinery.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Must have good interpersonal skills, own adequate hand tools and have the ability to work well with others and independently.
- Technical certification or vocational training in diesel mechanics, heavy equipment repair, or a related field.
- Experience working with rental or leasing equipment in a service capacity.
- Perform detailed inspections and diagnostics on equipment to identify issues.
- Conduct repairs and maintenance tasks including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic maintenance and assist other equipment mechanics with general shop and equipment maintenance as directed.
- Create and maintain work orders for all service activities. Maintain accurate service records and documentation for all equipment serviced, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Communicate effectively with service managers to prioritize repair schedules and equipment availability.
The Shop Service Technician utilizes mechanical and diagnostic skills daily to troubleshoot and repair complex equipment issues, ensuring machines are safe and operational for rental. Strong communication skills are essential for coordinating with team members and documenting service activities accurately. Technical proficiency allows the technician to interpret manuals and schematics to perform precise repairs and maintenance. Organizational skills help manage parts inventory and maintain a clean, efficient workspace.
Additionally, adaptability and continuous learning enable the technician to keep pace with evolving equipment technologies and industry best practices.
