Position Summary

Responsible for maintenance, servicing and repairs of roads and other infrastructure assets. The individual maintains contracted assets such as roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, bridges, tunnels, vegetation, etc. per contract standards and supervisor direction. The role may include operating equipment for winter or summer operations as required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Set up and remove traffic control devices including cones, message/arrow boards, and temporary signage.
  • Provide safe maintenance of traffic control.
  • Perform basic maintenance and repair of bridge structures and equipment rooms, including portals, railings, expansion joints, doors, and painting.
  • Repair and maintain functionality of roadway catch basins, sumps, pumps, fire hydrants, and other mechanical assets using shovels and other hand or power tools.
  • Repair and maintain equipment room ventilation systems.
  • Repair and maintain basic electrical systems such as emergency telephones, CCTV, electronic traffic signs, call boxes, lane signals, and lighting.
  • Transport crew and equipment to work sites using large trucks, specialized motor vehicles, and trailers.
  • Be available for emergency response rotations, overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Maintain and repair highway surfaces, including potholes, striping, reflectors, concrete, and asphalt.
  • Keep highways and medians clean by removing litter and debris.
  • Repair and maintain functionality of slopes, berms, culverts, drains, etc.
  • Control vegetation appearance and growth using mowing equipment, hand or power trimmers, and chemical sprayers.
  • Maintain the appearance and functionality of signs, guardrails, fences, and lighting through repair or replacement using hand or power tools.
  • Keep roadways free of debris including ice and snow using snow removal or sanding equipment.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of underground infrastructure maintenance.
  • Practice safe work methods and recognize hazards.
  • Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Cooperate and communicate with coworkers and supervisors.
  • Perform basic math functions.
  • Understand written, oral, or diagram instructions.
  • Read, write and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Work flexibly and be willing to work extensively to meet business needs.
  • High attention to detail and ownership of responsibilities.
  • Basic knowledge of materials, tools, and equipment used in concrete, asphalt repair, construction, and maintenance.
  • Skill in using hand and power tools.
  • Interface with the public professionally.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED (Required).
  • One (1) year work experience in infrastructure, maintenance, and repair (Preferred).
  • A valid driver license and good driving record (Required).
Work Conditions / Physical Demands

Work environment involves routine exposure to traffic, outdoor weather, extreme heat and cold, wet or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, insects, reptiles/rodents, and moderate to high noise levels. Physical demands include standing, sitting, walking on varied surfaces, using hands and fingers, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing, lifting up to 50 pounds, using manual and powered tools, operating at heights, and confined spaces.

Ability to pass fit test for respirator as required.
