Maintenance Foreman and/or Supervisor of Maintenance
Service HVACR, Plumbing and electrical systems and devices throughout the school system.
- Advises supervisors of safety violations.
- Completes work orders, recording both time and material required.
- Responds to emergency duty assignments on both a daily and on‑call basis.
- Repairs other equipment as needed such as custodial, food service, and shop equipment.
- Assists in snow removal.
- Reports problems with assigned vehicles; maintains vehicle cleanliness as well as oil, gas, and coolant levels.
- Performs work in a timely manner.
- Assumes responsibility for assigned tools.
- Performs preventive maintenance on HVACR, Plumbing and Electrical equipment, such as inspecting, cleaning, oiling, greasing, calibrating, changing air filters and drive belts.
- Assists throughout maintenance when there is a need of additional personnel due to absences or in emergency situations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Ability to understand the operation of a wide variety of computer and electrical controls.
- An understanding of mechanical function.
- Ability to follow directions.
- Ability to detect malfunctioning equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials and staff, co‑workers, and the general public.
- Willingness to attend skills workshops and/or seminars as needed.
- Ability to read, write, and work from blueprints and schematics.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal mechanical codes.
- Ability to make effective decisions.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions, at heights, and in confined spaces.
- Serve as a role model.
Education and Experience
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Must possess a CFC license, universal preferred.
- Mechanical equipment service experience.
- HVACR, Plumbing or Electrical technical degree preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office‑related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.
Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.
