Position Description

Ryder is hiring a Diesel Technician Trainee in Manassas, Virginia. As a trainee, you will receive weekly pay and comprehensive benefits while training to become a Ryder Diesel Mechanic Technician.

Salary, Hours & Schedule
  • Hourly Pay: $22.66 per hour
  • Schedule:

    Monday–Friday, weekends OFF
  • Hours:

    First Shift 7:00 am – 3:30 pm

Responsibilities
  • Move heavy‑duty vehicles into or out of yard, wash bay, service shop, or deliver to rental shop. Wash and detail vehicles manually or using automated equipment; fuel diesel, natural gas, and hybrid vehicles properly while adhering to all shop safety policies and procedures; record fuel activity and maintain fuel and DEF inventories and reconciliation.
  • Perform multi‑point inspection on inbound units: checking tire pressure, thread, fluid levels, lights, washing windows, changing tires, inspecting refrigeration units on trucks, and reporting issues.
  • Maintain fuel island area to Six Sigma standards; perform facility maintenance and minor maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Attend and complete all Technician Training Development Program requirements and assessments. Training includes hands‑on and online training in Service Island Training, Service Island Multi‑point Inspection, Vehicle Fueling and Washing, Environmental Safety & Spill Response, Safe Driving, Service Island Organization & Cleanliness (6S Standards), Technician I Training (Preventive Maintenance, Tire and Wheel, Service Bay Tool), and Technician II Training (HD Electrical, Air and Hydraulic Brakes).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Zero to one year mechanical experience working with and maintaining diesel engines (preferred).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Proficiency in written and verbal English.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Strong technical aptitude to learn equipment and machinery (preferred).
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems (preferred).
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Represent Ryder professionally to employees and customers.
  • Time management and priority setting skills.
  • Good attendance and performance track record.
  • Personal accountability and proven results.
  • Basic computer skills;
    Microsoft Office.
  • Beginner knowledge of shop management systems (preferred).
  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred).
  • DOT safety regulated position; regulated tech.
  • Safety‑sensitive position; meet state law requirements for age and hours.
Regulated Tech Requirements
  • Obtain CDL within six months after hire.
  • Pass a Ryder drug test.
  • Pass a DOT physical.
  • Pass a Ryder road test.
  • Pass a Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check—including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last three years.
