Sr Embedded Software Engineer

We are hiring a Sr Embedded Software Engineer to play a key role in advancing and modernization of software for mission‑critical undersea defense systems. This position will focus on transforming legacy development workflows into efficient, scalable CI/CD pipelines using Git Lab and modern automation practices.

This is a highly technical, hands‑on architecture role where you will partner with Dev Ops engineers, embedded developers, and technical leadership to design and implement next‑generation build environments. Your contributions will directly influence modernization initiatives, improve software delivery efficiency, and help establish long‑term technical direction across multiple programs.

• Participate in a cross‑functional team to evaluate a large, complex legacy embedded software code base, assess the current CI/CD pipeline, and create a strategic roadmap for modernization.
• Work closely with stakeholders to validate and ensure the quality and effectiveness of all proposed enhancements.
• Identify technical obstacles stemming from technical debt or system requirements and develop pragmatic solutions.
• Design and implement scalable, modular, and automated build pipelines using Git Lab and modern Dev Ops tooling.
• Build expertise with existing client catalog of shared CI/CD capabilities to integrate these into proposed build enhancements.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related STEM discipline.
• 7+ years of experience with Embedded C programming for large defense systems.
• Proficiency with Git Lab and CI/CD pipeline strategies to streamline and accelerate software delivery.
• Knowledge of software engineering concepts and principles associated with modular components.
• Experience with software build technologies such as make, Gradle, or Bash scripting.
• Ability to obtain a Secret clearance.

• Leadership in architecting and designing large, complex legacy software systems with expertise in C or C++.
• Experience in Automation & Dev Ops, including CI/CD definition and Infrastructure as Code.
• Understanding of software design fundamentals, design patterns, architectural styles, and SOLID principles.
• Experience designing and implementing microservices solutions.
• Expertise in API design and integration, including REST, gRPC, Graph
  
  QL, and OpenAPI.
• Experience with static application security testing tools like Fortify.
• Familiarity with binary management repositories such as Artifactory or Nexus.
• Proficiency in modern software development methodologies including Agile, Scrum, and Dev Ops practices.

This position requires 100% onsite work in the ASW Lab located at our client’s site in Manassas, VA. The role offers significant visibility and opportunities for networking across different initiatives, contributing to site‑wide changes and undersea warfare support. The work environment is dynamic and involves collaboration with various teams, with some initiatives also focused on cloud technologies.

This is a Contract position based out of Manassas, VA.

The pay range for this position is $75.00 - $90.00/hr.
