The WorkLockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems is seeking a Software Engineering professional to join our team based out of Manassas, VA. This position supports United States Navy programs specializing in Software Engineering. The role requires a candidate with strong problem‑solving skills focused on software development and integration for U.S. Navy ASW (Anti‑Submarine Warfare) programs. The candidate should be a well‑rounded software developer with broad experience, but with a focused interest in Linux including security, containers, scripting, and other Linux‑related work.
Candidate must be able to work within a team environment. This is an onsite position that will be in Manassas, VA.
- Perform work in an agile development team and will be responsible for supporting elements of the design/development effort.
- Be involved in the development of custom OS solutions for our systems. This includes taking Red Hat Linux and customizing it to fit the needs of our customers.
- Apply Cyber Security hardening to the Linux OS.
- Create Virtual Machines and containers in support of the customer OSes.
- Develop shell scripts and Ansible Playbooks in support of developing/deploying the OS.
- Automate the development/deployment of the Linux OS and find ways to inject Dev Ops into the development process.
- Participate in some development of code (Java/C++/Python) to support the program. This is a secondary focus with the Linux work being the primary focus of the job.

- Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 2 years of professional experience; or no experience required with a related Masters degree.
- Proficiency with the Linux OS.
- Knowledge of Bash and Python.
- Qualified candidates must be able to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance. This requires U.S. Citizenship.
- Java, C++, Docker/Podman
- Kubernetes or Open Shift
- Test Automation
- Ability to work with cross‑functional teams (Hardware, Systems Engineering, integration + Test).
- Understanding of Docker/Podman, Ansible, Git Lab
- Knowledge of Gradle
- Basic understanding of Software configuration management
- Experience in computer system administration

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full‑time:
The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules:
Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week.
