Job Description

The Rear-load Driver is responsible for supporting key operations within the waste management and recycling industry. This role contributes to the organization's success through strong execution, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and a commitment to safety, service quality, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate strong vehicle control, including backing, turning, and maneuvering in tight or congested environments
  • Comply with all applicable DOT, OSHA, and company safety policies and procedures
  • Perform and document pre-trip and post-trip inspections
  • Utilize safe backing procedures, including coordination with helpers
  • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or equipment issues immediately
  • Complete routes safely, on time, and in accordance with service and productivity expectations
  • Maintain route pace in high-volume environments
  • Follow route sheets and dispatcher instructions
  • Ensure helpers follow safe work practices and company procedures while on route
  • Work closely with helpers to collect and load waste into the truck
  • Assist with loading waste when needed
  • Ensure safe coordination with helpers, especially during backing operations
  • Provide courteous service to residential customers
  • Ensure streets and collection areas are left clean and free of debris
  • Report service issues or missed pickups
  • Represent the company professionally at all times while in the field
  • Operate packer controls and loading mechanisms safely
  • Identify and report unacceptable or hazardous waste
  • Complete DVIRs, route sheets, and required documentation
  • Maintain communication with dispatch throughout the shift
  • Drivers are responsible for safe execution of their duties. The Safety Department provides training, standards, and oversight. Drivers must follow all safety procedures and actively participate in training.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Class A or B CDL with air brake endorsement
  • Valid DOT medical certification
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ year CDL experience
  • Experience in residential or manual collection environments

Physical Requirements

  • Continuous climbing, walking, and manual labor
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Full-time, early morning start
  • Monday–Friday with occasional Saturdays
  • Work performed in residential neighborhood
