POSITION SUMMARY

New Heights Academy of Manchester (part of Hartford Healthcare) is looking for a Certified Special Education Teacher to join our team. This position will focus on teaching career-exploration and employment skills as well as other life-skill development classes. We are a small special education school of 36 students. We support our teachers and work closely together as a team but also give them autonomy to plan and implement their lessons creatively, as they see fit.

This is your chance to work with a small number of students (6 students per class and caseload) and make a big impact on their lives! Additional key responsibilities include maintaining a caring and structured classroom environment. This teacher will also maintain close contact with parents/guardians, share a leadership role in creating a trauma-informed and academically challenging environment, and provide supervision for Teacher Assistants.

The successful teacher will demonstrate a deep understanding of the learning process as well as have the knowledge and skills to teach an array of transition skill classes and elective and/or enrichment courses. Exceptional interpersonal skills are a must. Experience teaching middle and high school students is highly desired.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must be certified special education teachers or DSAP-eligible.
