CT State Community College Coordinator, SSS Program

The Community Colleges offer two-year liberal arts degrees as well as certificate programs in technical, career and occupational fields. The Colleges make their educational efforts available to a varied population within which specific skills may be lacking in basic subject areas necessary for success in higher education.

The Coordinator, SSS Program manages remedial and supplemental tutoring and skill building training to improve student proficiency in a specific subject area such as mathematics, science or reading/writing at a Community College. The incumbent may teach one or more classes in the assigned discipline.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Program development
  • Service delivery
  • New student advisement
  • Maintenance of student records
  • Grant reporting
  • Training, development and direction of staff and student workers
  • Delivery of instructional lab/classes

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies
  • Service on assigned committees and task forces
  • Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings which may occur during evenings and weekends.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Master's degree in education, special education or a field closely related, together with two (2) or more years of teaching experience as well as four (4) or more years of experience with higher educational support programming; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position's essential duties.
  • Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
    • Academic and skills assessment methods
    • Familiarity with physical and learning disabilities
    • Remedial, developmental and adult education methods and techniques
    • Student support and development experience
    • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including individuals with disabilities
    • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience working with TRIO programs or other student success programs and initiatives
  • Experience supporting first-generation college students, students from low-income backgrounds, students with disabilities, or other underserved student populations.
  • Experience developing and facilitating student success workshops, educational programming, or engagement activities.
  • Knowledge of student information systems, case management software, and higher education technologies (e.g., Banner, Degree Works, Navigate, Starfish, or similar platforms)

Salary $61,154 approximate annual. This Grant Funded position has the potential of renewal through June 11, 2027.
