Associate Distribution Engineer
Location:
Framingham, MA office or New Hampshire area.
In this role you can gain experience in NESC expertise, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS Design, and interactions with Substation, Protection & Controls, and Civil Structural disciplines.
This position requires the selected candidate to work approximately six months via a temporary contractor with the possibility of converting to a direct Leidos employee at the end of that period.
The successful candidate will develop construction work packages for the electric distribution system using Bentley Open Utilities Design, CAD tools, GIS, Work Management Systems, and other client systems. Distribution systems may be in an overhead (OH), underground (UG), or under‑roof (URD) environment. Project work may include new business and reliability designs, engineering calculations (pole analysis, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, transformer sizing, voltage drop, flicker, coordination of protective devices) and activities such as forestry trimming requests, permit and Right‑of‑Way acquisition, bill of materials development, cost estimating, and customer advocacy.
Responsibilities- Develop construction work packages for the electric distribution system using mandatory software systems and construction standards.
- Perform new business and reliability designs using Bentley Open Utilities Design, CAD, GIS, WMS, and other client systems.
- Conduct engineering calculations including structural analysis of poles, mandating, cable pulling, electric demand, transformer sizing, voltage drop and flicker, and protective device coordination.
- Prepare forestry trimming requests, facilitate permit and Right‑of‑Way acquisition, develop a BOM, estimate costs, and advocate for customers such as acquiring easements.
- Travel by motor vehicle to project locations to conduct field investigations.
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or a related field and at least six months of relevant experience with an electric utility or a consulting/contracting company performing design engineering for electric utilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to perform both field and office work.
- Reliable transportation to ensure consistent attendance at office and field sites.
- Engineer in Training Certificate (EIT) support.
- Professional Engineer Licensure (PE) support.

Pay Range: $50,700.00 - $91,650.00. The pay range is a general guideline and is not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered include responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, and internal equity.
