Position SummaryThe Mortgage Loan Officer in Manchester, CT provides information on credit union products, conducts interviews with loan applicants, prepares loan documents, evaluates applications, and promotes products to meet productivity goals.
Responsibilities Loan Management / Borrower Advisement- Meet with loan applicants to discuss viable mortgage options, counsel on credit and budgeting, develop a roadmap for approval, and assist through the application process; achieve productivity goals set by management.
- Prequalify applicants by examining borrower information, assessing creditworthiness, income, collateral, and repayment risk; determine maximum purchase price/loan amount and explain denials if standards are not met.
- Gather and review data, including credit bureau reports, to complete the loan review process and ensure all debts are accurately documented.
- Comply with all federal and state mortgage regulations and disclosure requirements.
- Prepare loan applications and documentation for underwriting and closing, troubleshoot issues that arise, and maintain communication with borrowers during processing.
- Identify, develop, and maintain a network of quality relationships that serve as a recurring source of referrals, including real‑estate professionals, builders, and other contacts.
- Oversee responsibilities of a Mortgage Loan Assistant as appropriate and perform other duties as necessary.
- High School Diploma;
Bachelor’s degree preferred. - Minimum 2 years of experience in mortgage, banking, or related fields.
- Consumer lending experience preferred.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills and ability to independently handle loan applications.
- Ability to follow file quality guidelines and meet productivity goals.
- Proficiency in NMLS certification and familiar with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong communication, writing, presentation, and customer‑service skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively on a team, travel, and work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Sensitivity to low‑wealth borrower issues and a desire to work in a racially and socially diverse organization.
- Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus.
