Job Description
The Quality Engineer develops, assures, and maintains the quality of products and processes, including standard procedures such as ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14000 family of standards, conducts quality audits/reviews, and develops testing and sampling methods. The role encompasses training and the development of policies and procedures to evaluate and improve product, material, component, and operational quality. This is a key role within the Quality department and the organization.
Responsibilities- Drive process and product improvement initiatives across multiple functional disciplines.
- Analyze program requirements and prepare responsive quality plans and procedures.
- Develop and implement formalized quality system processes for ISO 9001 certification.
- Lead efforts to gather, organize, monitor, analyze, and report information on products and processes.
- Use problem‑solving methodologies to determine root causes and drive corrective action.
- Provide ongoing quality management system support, including internal audits and implementation of root‑cause corrective actions.
- Evaluate non‑conforming material.
- Provide technical support to Assembly, Test, and Inspection personnel, develop inspection methods and criteria, specify sampling plans, interpret and revise specifications, and process non‑conforming materials.
- Generate statistical reports on inspection activities, new product or process testing results, and recommend actions.
- Establish programs to evaluate the precision and accuracy of production and processing equipment and testing methods.
- Analyze large data sets critically and logically.
- Report progress and status regularly.
- Work with Sales and Customers to complete RGAs, returns, and paperwork; partner with sales and marketing to assess quality impacts and improvements.
- Collaborate with the production team on manufacturing process improvements focused on error proofing and quality assurance; identify training needs.
- Lead cross‑functional process improvement and corrective action teams to support continuous improvement.
- Apply 80/20, PLS, and USA principles/techniques to recommend process improvements to management.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field.
Experience/
Skills:
- 3+ years of progressive experience in a factory manufacturing environment utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and/or Total Quality Management principles.
- 2+ years of QA/QC experience implementing and managing Quality Management Systems.
- Proficient with ISO Standards, Six Sigma tools, and statistics.
- Proficient in Excel.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, communication, and writing skills.
- Ability to define problems and drive to root cause and effective corrective action.
- Process improvement and problem‑solving skills.
- Demonstrated success initiating change.
