Target Security Specialist

Starting Hourly Rate

$20.25 USD per hour.

The Target Security Specialist protects guests, store team members, and the brand by mitigating risks of theft, fraud, and shortage. The role promotes a safe environment, responds to incidents, and builds relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

• Use intelligence‑led tactics to keep team members and guests safe and secure.
• Provide crisis response, crowd management, and de-escalation support.
• Operate Target’s video surveillance system and use physical security controls.
• Document cases accurately in the case management system.
• Deliver an easy, inspiring guest experience: greet guests within 10 feet, smile, make eye contact; greet at 4 feet and initiate a warm interaction; help guests find what they need; end each guest transaction with a sincere thank you.
• Support team efforts and assist peers across the store while maintaining a positive attitude.
• Promote a physical security culture by assessing and maintaining safe and secure standards throughout the store and exterior property.
• Respond to and document security incidents promptly.
• Leverage de-escalation tactics and resources during incidents.
• Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide theft apprehension support as needed.
• Prevent theft and shortage at the front of the store by performing merchandise receipt checks and communicating trends.
• Submit documentation in the case management system for all incidents following AP policy and procedures.
• Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance.
• Work safely following all safety policies and report hazards.
• Perform additional duties as business requires.

• Minimum 18 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Meet all state or local licensing or legal requirements.
• Willingness to work a flexible, rotating schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping times.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to use multiple frequency devices, handheld scanners, and other technology.
• Strong teamwork and independence.
• Capacity to prioritize tasks and complete them within time constraints.
• Ability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment.

• Climb up and down ladders.
• Apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy.
• Handle merchandise efficiently and safely, lifting up to 40 pounds.
• Work in varying temperatures and humidity, including drive‑up and carry‑out environments.
• Remain mobile throughout the scheduled shift.
