Position Overview
Mobile Diesel Technician Level II
Duties- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile field environment.
- Perform minor adjustment and repairs on various types of truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling, starter/alternator, fan clutch, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, and more.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment across electrical, brake, cooling, air conditioning, fan clutch, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines, transmissions, clutches and differentials.
- Inspect, test and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck, and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
- Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess needs, provide assistance, resolve problems, or satisfy expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lift jacks.
- Document work according to company standards and upload pictures, parts used, and findings to Repair Orders (RO) using the company‑issued iOS device and proprietary TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and all other required documentation in a timely fashion.
- Operate independently and manage own daily schedule.
- Maintain high productivity and work within or close to standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
- Communicate with management and support team via email or phone for repair estimates, purchase order approvals, and discussion of RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Maintain the company‑issued service truck, conduct safety checks, and perform daily pre/post‑trip inspections.
- High School Diploma or GED with 3 years of related experience (alternatively a higher degree or certification plus 5 years of experience).
- Possess a set of hand tools necessary to perform required duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.
- Pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
- Provide a current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining, or complete a DOT physical if less than four months remain.
- Be at least 21 years old.
- Hold a valid state‑of‑residence driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
- Required:
ASE T8 (PMI) - Preferred: ASE T3 (Drivetrain), ASE T4 (Brakes), ASE T5 (Suspension), ASE T6 (Electrical & Electronic Systems), ASE T7 (HVAC), ASE 608/609
- Understand the implications of new information for current and future problem‑solving and decision‑making.
- Lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods while performing moderately heavy labor.
- Perform repetitive tasks without tiring over extended periods.
- Communicate information succinctly and organize ideas; engage in effective two‑way communication.
- Determine appropriate tools and equipment for a given task.
- Accurately judge distances between objects.
- Use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions.
