Job Description
Purpose:
A Machine Operator coordinates activities of production department in regards to processing materials and/or products.
- Adheres to safety policies and procedures in compliance with company guidelines including wearing mandatory PPE in production areas.
- Review production orders and reports discrepancies of product specifications to line Foreman.
- Remove finished product from winders and places it on scales to verify weight. Band cartons/product to skid for shipment.
- Places identification labels on product or skids and keeps records or generates tally sheets as required, and complies with established packing plans and procedures.
- Ensures that quality is in accordance with work order specifications.
- Responsible for personal and overall safety, quality of packaging, careful damage-free handling, and housekeeping.
- Responsible for adhering to and executing the applicable Environmental Health & Safety programs in order to provide a safe and clean workplace for all employees according to Berry, local, state, and federal requirement-regulations.
- Ensure all safety and health standards are met to keep the production areas accident-free.
- High School diploma or GED. Previous Manufacturing experience is a plus.
- Able to work in a production environment, recognizing various sounds and alarms.
- Must be able to monitor quality of machine output.
- Able to communicate with co-workers on issues and activities.
- Ability to complete functional math; adding, subtracting, multiplying, division and accurately read a tape measure.
- Capable of physical mobility. Over a 12‑hour shift, the employee pulls and drags sheets of plastic, rearranges and organizes product, grasps and pulls product during production process, can climb/descent stairs into the tower areas (50‑65 feet in the air) and pushes a broom to clean production floor.
- Bachelor Degree or equivalent work experience.
- Experience in plastics, preferably in a blown film industry or manufacturing equivalent.
- Previous Production Manager experience.
- Continuous Improvement / Lean Six Sigma experience and certifications a plus.
- Demonstrated leadership core competencies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Results driven: ability to set and meet deadlines in an ever‑changing environment and a willingness to work when needed.
- Naturally strive for continuous improvements in all areas of responsibility and keep current with technological advancements.
- Strong leadership skills, self‑motivated, positive attitude, team player.
- Committed to safety, quality and productivity.
- Capital and project management experience strongly preferred.
- Strong curiosity to learn new process and equipment and the ability to effectively lead teams.
