Overview
Location:
Newport News, Virginia. Hiring range: $16.80 – $21.83 per hour. This is a full-time position with daytime hours available. The role reports to a Registered Nurse/LPN and Nurse Manager/Director and involves personal care of hospital patients and their environment, including patients requiring special precautions. The incumbent must provide care appropriate to the age of patients served in the unit, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles and adhering to departmental policies and procedures.

- Demonstrate understanding of the technology systems necessary for patient data collection.
- Ensure availability of resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) to support positive patient outcomes.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work/patient environment by cleaning workstations/areas, equipment, stocking supplies, and storing equipment appropriately.
- Follow the plan of care and perform treatments and procedures competently/independently under the direction of the RN/LPN, as competency permits and unit/facility requirements allow.
- Assist with procedures that may be required on the unit, such as enemas, vital signs, ice application, compresses, perineal care, rectal tube, sitz bath, unsterile sites, urine strain for stones, specimen collection, and related tasks within scope of practice.
- Provide care that adheres to the plan of care, ensuring consistent, competent, and ethical care while respecting patient privacy and value systems, and following verbal and/or written instructions.
- Maintain appropriate documentation and demonstrate understanding of assigned plans of care within the scope of practice as directed by the RN/LPN.
- Participate in training and support of team members, volunteers, and students as needed.
- Experience:
1 year in an acute health care setting (Preferred). - Licenses/Certifications:
- Certified Nurse Aid (CNA) – Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) Upon Hire (Required).
- CPR/BLS Certification – American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC/ASHI) Upon Hire (Required) or CPR/BLS Instructor – AHA/ARC/ASHI Upon Hire (Required).
