2026 Summer Camp Lead & Assistant Lead Seasonal Full-Time Primary PurposeProvide direct care to children aged K-6 as they participate in the Summer Day Camp program, maintaining the highest level of safety and positive culture. This position can be considered a success if children consider this the best summer of their lives.
SupervisionUnder the direct supervision of the Recreation Superintendent.
Essential Functions- Maintain a positive workplace and camp culture by treating staff, participants, and anyone they encounter in the course of their work with the utmost respect. Always maintain a personal positive attitude.
- Provide direct supervision and accountability to Summer Day Camp staff and work with the Recreation Coordinator and Superintendent to address these as necessary.
- Coordinate with field-trip destination to pay for admission and manage waivers as needed. Maintain receipts for transactions for reporting to Recreation Superintendent.
- Be a positive role model to campers and staff in all aspects of their work – set a good example to campers and other staff regarding general camp procedures.
- Maintain the Camp schedule by keeping the group focused, and the trips on task and on schedule.
- Maintain a safe environment for the children by attending scheduled shifts, finding coverage when needed, and being punctual.
- Attend staff meetings and training.
- In the absence of the Recreation Superintendent or Recreation Coordinator, this individual will maintain the Camp opening and closing for the day as needed.
- Responsible for strict adherence to policies and procedures related to safety and other regulations.
- Communicate any issues with the Recreation Coordinator and Superintendent regarding the children or program.
- Communicate with parents in the absence of a Recreation Assistant or Supervisor about any child-related issues.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Preferred but not required: a graduate of an accredited University or College with a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child and Family Development, Social Work, or Recreation.
- A minimum of 2 years of work experience in a managerial position, preferably with recreation experience and/or childcare experience.
- Knowledge of child and adult behaviors. Knowledge of basic verbal and written skills.
- Knowledge of modern office practices and standard English; basic math calculations.
- Knowledge of standard office practices and computer skills.
- Ability to effectively and safely work with children.
- Positive, upbeat, and dynamic personality are advantageous.
- Strong communication skills are critical.
- Performs bending, sorting and reaching to both ground level and overhead.
- Lifts and carries up to fifty (50) lbs.
- Must be able to hold and grip objects.
- Must be able to withstand long hours (ten-hour days) in both indoor and outdoor environments, subject to extreme weather.
- Subject to the City of Ozark drug and alcohol prevention and abuse ordinances.
- Must be able to pass a background check with the State of Missouri Family Care and Safety Registry.
- CPR/First Aid completed before the beginning of Summer.
- Indoor and Outdoor working environment. Subject to extreme weather.
