LIBRARY PAGE 8005 GRADE 101 PAY RANGE 1925hr 20 HOURSWEEK GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs simple routine clerical and light manual work in the operation of a library; performs directly related work as required
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASSThe principal function of an employee in this class is to provide routine clerical support and light manual work to key library personnel in addition to customer service to the public The work is performed under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor but some leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgement and initiative The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City employees and the public The principal duties of this class are performed in a general office environment
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL WORK- Clears circulation service desk areas of checked in materials
- returns library materials to their proper location in the library
- Keeps library materials neat and in proper order
- Secures specified books for patrons or for use in making up collections
- Assists library staff with special projects including document delivery program set up reorganization and cleaning of library shelves light typing and a variety of other duties as needed
- Restocks supplies at the circulation desk
- Retrieves materials from external book drops sorts and transfers materials to circulation desks
- Transfers in transit materials from service desks to circulation workroom for inter library requests
- Completes minor mending of books and other reading material as needed
- Attaches date due pockets and security tags on books and other reading material
- Searches for items that have been declared missing
- Provides guidance and demonstrations to new employees in similar positions
- Keeps supervisors informed of work progress issues and potential solutions
- Attends meetings and training to stay current on relevant practices and developments
- Responds to citizen inquiries courteously and promptly
- Coordinates regularly with others to enhance interdepartmental efficiency
- and Performs additional duties as required by the classification
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Some knowledge of modern office procedures practices and equipment
- Some knowledge of modern office filing systems and procedures
Ability to communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing using both technical and non technical language - Ability to understand and follow oral andor written policies procedures and instructions
- Ability to use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications andor oral instructions
- Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time sensitive deadlines
- Ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information andor technology
- Integrity ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks
- Fourteen years of age or older
- and Graduation from High School or possession of a GED or currently enrolled in high school
- andZero to two years of experience in a library environment
- orAny equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge skills and abilities necessary to perform the work
