Requirements There is a need for Anesthesia MD at Catholic Medical Center.
Reason for the need? Our practice has gone through significant transitions. We went from contracted NAPA to hospital employed on 11/26/23 then just over a year later we transitions to HCA on 2/1/25. The changes have driven providers to become contractors/locums rather than W2 employees. Our region of the country offers many anesthesia opportunities so recruitment is difficult. They all work at multiple locations.
When would the providers need to start? ASAP – We are desperate for help on Thursdays and Fridays
Need Duration? Long term or until W2 can be recruited doesn’t look promising as this point
What’s the schedule? On-site call coverage weekends nights
Shift Hour Lengths? Honestly we need everything. 24 hour in house OB CRNA coverage is needed for the holidays 11/27 amp 11/28 then 12/24 amp 12/25. Physician call coverage these are 24 hour shifts weekdays they work the day then are on call for the overnight. Weekends it’s 24 hour shifts. During the call portion it is unrestricted with a 30 minute response time.
If call is involved what is call volume? How often do they get called back on-site? Variable it really all depends on what comes into the emergency room.
What EMR is used? Hospital is Sunrise AKA Altera – Anesthesia is MEd Axion
Candidate Parameters
Will they consider BE and BC? if not listed in PAWS already I don’t know what this means – Can you explain?
Any specific fellowships/ certifications/ procedures/ competencies we are looking for? ACLS and NBCRNA or ABA minimum
Experience level? For OB CRNA they need to be a CRNA at least a year with OB experience – MD/DO coverage we would like someone with call experience
OR Questions
Number of ORs/Anesthetizing locations? Approx. 15 depending on the day
Types of procedures? Everything except – ENT Pediatrics and Neuro may be added in the future CV is covered by our cardiac team only and not needed from HWS
General Endo CV OB
Trauma center? Level III Adult
What does the support staff look like? The OR has anesthesia nurses and support techs. I am the only support for our practice.
Credentialing questions
Will we do emergency privs or temps? That is up to Parallon and our Medical Staff Office – They have issues temporary privileges but it is on a case by case request.
Orientation done on first day or prior? First day unless the provider is available prior.
Anesthesiologist Specific Question
Will the Anes be sitting their own cases? Some could we have a mix of supervision and room coverage needs
How many CRNA’s will the Anes be supervising? Usually no more than 3 – due to our buildings procedural locations
Types of cases the Anes will be sitting? Supervising? See types of procedures above no CV but yes to cardiac EP cases
Do Anesthesiologists take call? On-site or beeper? Beeper after hours. In house during the day on weekdays they are part of our staffing count.
CRNA Specific Question
Are CRNA’s able to sit all types of cases? Yes OB if they are the 24 hour OB person scheduled – no CV that is cardiac team only
CV or OB specific?
What is the collaborative relationship between MD and CRNA? Very cordial and respectful – we have a very nice team care model. The whole hospital is very nice and we have a great culture.
Do CRNA’s take call? On-site or beeper? Onsite 24 hour OB coverage with OR coverage as needed if free
Do CRNA’s do Regional blocks? Yes and lines
FTE vs. headcount vs. dates:
If measured in FTE – anticipated FTE-coverage needed / headcount / and/or dates. Every Thursday and Friday 12 hour shifts for CRNAs – sporadic need for physician coverage. I would estimate 2 - 4 24 hour shifts a month plus maybe two day shifts.
Other candidate sellables / what attracts providers to your facility? The culture and team. CMC is very nice. The acuity of patients can be challenging and all their skills may be needed/used.
When can we lock-in existing providers for 2026? Now - we need help now and in the future until recruitment of W2 providers is successful.
