The opportunity

The Academic Support Administrator - Writing and Liberal Arts provides leadership for writing, liberal arts, and academic communication support within the Wolak Learning Center. You will recruit, train, supervise, and develop Peer Educators while coordinating high-quality tutoring services, workshops, class-embedded support, review sessions, and other academic skill-building initiatives for campus undergraduate and graduate students. With a focus on inclusive, strengths-based practice, you will support students in college‑level writing, critical reading, research, revision, source use, AI literacy, and writing integrity.

The Academic Support Administrator uses student engagement data, assessment results, staff observations, and campus feedback to evaluate support impact, inform service improvements, and strengthen student persistence. In collaboration with faculty, campus partners, Peer Educators, the Assistant Director, and the Director of the Wolak Learning Center, you will identify student learning needs, develop proactive and just‑in‑time academic supports, represent the Wolak Learning Center in campus settings, and contribute to broader Learning Center initiatives, outreach, staff meetings, and Jump Start early arrival programming.

You will report to the Director of the Wolak Learning Center.

What you'll do:
  • Peer Educator Hiring, Guidance, and Development
    • You will hire, train, and oversee Peer Educators who support writing, and liberal arts, across assigned disciplines and courses.
    • You will provide onboarding, providing ongoing professional development, monitoring performance, and offering coaching to strengthen the quality of peer academic support.
    • You will prepare Peer Educators to support writing, reading, research, AI literacy, and writing integrity through inclusive, strengths-based tutoring practices.
    • You will collaborate with Wolak Learning Center staff to provide leadership regarding all aspects of recognition, promotion, and evaluation of Peer Educators in partnership with the Office Manager. Consult with the Assistant Director to assess training needs and provide ongoing development opportunities for Peer Educators.
    • You will ensure the quality and effectiveness of one-to-one, drop‑in, and in‑class peer support through regular observation, feedback, and ongoing communication with Peer Educators.
  • Academic Support Program Coordination
    • You will manage all tutoring services for campus undergraduate and graduate students, including one‑to‑one support, workshops, class‑embedded tutoring assignments, and review sessions.
    • You will develop and coordinate a comprehensive tutoring schedule that meets the needs of student preferences and budget parameters
    • You will provide individualized academic support, including tutoring and coaching, to students in areas that align with background/expertise
    • Facilitate daily program operations and respond to the needs of commuters, residential students, and a range of academic performance levels through flexible, creative, and student‑centered resolutions.
    • Design and oversee academic skill‑building initiatives, including writing intensives, research workshops, reading‑for‑college sessions, and AI literacy and writing integrity workshops.
    • Support writing‑intensive liberal arts disciplines such as humanities, social sciences, education, justice studies, psychology, history, sociology, and political science.
