Position: CIVIL ENGINEER I - III

Overview

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Bridge Design has a full-time vacancy for a Civil Engineer I, II or III. Base pay range: $22.50/hr - $38.85/hr this range is provided by the State of New Hampshire; your actual pay will be based on skills and experience. Position #20097.

Compensation

Base pay range: $22.50/hr - $38.85/hr civil Engineer I: $22.50/hour - $30.22/hour. Civil Engineer II: $25.40/hour - $34.14/hour. Civil Engineer III: $28.74/hour - $38.85/hour. See total compensation information at the bottom of the original announcement.

Responsibilities
  • Civil Engineer I:
    Perform entry-level civil engineer duties as assigned within the Bureau of Bridge Design. Assist with evaluation of existing bridge conditions, checks of calculations for structural capacity, and support for maintenance, rehabilitation, or replacement decisions. Draft and check contract plans for bridges and related structures in compliance with standards.
  • Civil Engineer II:
    Draft and check contract plans for bridges and highway structures; perform structural design calculations; apply CAD/D and PC computer techniques; develop location, alignment, drainage and design data; compute quantities for cost estimates and bidding.
  • Civil Engineer III:
    Develop and check contract plans; perform complex design calculations; initiate and integrate CAD/D; coordinate extensive engineering information; advise junior staff; ensure completeness and accuracy of contract plans.
QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – CE I
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Experience:

    No experience required.
  • Alternative:
    Associate’s degree in engineering or civil technology with two years of post-graduate experience in engineering comparable to an Engineering Technician.
  • License/Certification:
    Engineer-in-Training Certificate; valid driver’s license for statewide travel.
  • Other: MVR must meet minimum standards established by the Department of Transportation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Fundamentals of engineering knowledge, surveying, material testing, and basic design; ability to perform simple drawings, calculations, and laboratory tests; ability to establish working relationships. Willingness to maintain appearance appropriate to duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – CE II
  • Education:

    Master’s or Bachelor’s in engineering; or Associate’s with relevant experience as specified.
  • Experience:

    Varies by degree (see original). Licenses/certifications similar to CE I.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – CE III
  • Education:

    Master’s or Bachelor’s with equivalent experience; or Associate with related experience and additional years as specified.
  • Experience:

    Post-baccalaureate experience as described; license/certification:
    Engineer-in-Training; valid driver’s license.
Careers and Advancement
  • In-Band Advancement:
    Yes (NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Exam required).
  • Broad Group Level Advancement:
    Yes (promotion criteria described in the original posting).
Other Requirements

Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet standard requirements. Trainee option not applicable. After-hire requirements:
None.
