SUMMARY
:
To coordinate subsurface exploration activities and provide complex geotechnical engineering evaluations for statewide NHDOT civil engineering projects.

:
Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
- Education:
Master’s degree in engineering. - Experience:
Four years post-baccalaureate experience in engineering. - OR
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering. - Experience:
Six years post-baccalaureate experience in engineering. - OR
- Education:
Associate’s degree in engineering or engineering technology. - Experience:
Six years of engineering at a level equivalent to Civil Engineer I (or higher), plus two additional years similar to an Engineering Technician.
- Must be a Licensed Professional Engineer in Civil, Civil Highway, Geo Technical or Structural Engineering.
- Valid driver’s license with statewide travel access.
The applicant’s Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet minimum standards set by the agency.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSMinimum of nine credit hours of geotechnical engineering coursework and two years of geotechnical experience.
AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTSMust be a Licensed Professional Engineer in New Hampshire within one year of employment.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Prepare engineering reports with geotechnical data, evaluations, and recommendations.
- Review in-house geotechnical work and reports.
- Participate in design phase meetings and prepare contract specifications.
- Plan and supervise subsurface exploration and instrumentation programs.
- Prepare complex geotechnical calculations for slope stability, bearing capacities, and other analyses.
- Review consultant reports to assure technically sound designs.
- Support construction phase evaluation of unanticipated geotechnical conditions.
- Conduct field inspections and manage field exploration programs.
- Assist Pavement Management Staff in model development.
