Overview

Eligibility is based on job responsibilities, operational needs, nature of work and team dynamics. Current guidelines require employees to work at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with the third day set by the employee and supervisor based on department needs.

All applicants must be able to work up to five days in the office if needed (for example: emergencies, training, or other business needs) or should the policy change. This role coordinates activities related to construction and maintenance of New Hampshire’s transmission and distribution facilities, with emphasis on system security and reliability.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the operation of New Hampshire’s transmission and distribution facilities; exchange information with ISO-NE, Participants, neighboring systems, and System Operations staff to ensure forecasted operating conditions do not adversely impact the reliable operation of the bulk power supply system.
  • Prepare, communicate, and coordinate the development of plans to cope with possible or anticipated contingency situations.
  • Develop and recommend practices and procedures for improving the effectiveness of operations and coordinate the implementation of approved practices and procedures.
  • Perform computer simulation studies of complicated system conditions; use simulations to monitor, approve, or reschedule outages to ensure safe, secure, reliable, and economical operation.
  • Recommend mitigation strategies to minimize system and customer risk, including post-contingency restoration plans during planned and unplanned maintenance.
  • Represent System Operations Management at meetings for planning and operation of future projects; assist and advise System Operators during an assigned work period; provide guidance in restoration during system disturbances.
  • Consult with System Operations Management and System Operators, including after hours; serve on-call as required.
  • Analyze operations of system facilities and protective schemes caused by disturbances; assist in preparing special reports related to disturbances and unusual conditions.
  • Coordinate with ISO-NE, neighboring systems, and the New Hampshire Participants’ distribution system; adhere to NERC, NPCC, ISO-NE, and local operating procedures.
  • Disseminate accurate and timely reports pertaining to system disturbances or unusual operations; monitor, approve, and reschedule outages for maintenance and construction.
  • Delegate duties to System Operators to expedite work or provide training, with approval of the System Operations Manager.
Qualifications
  • Technical Knowledge/

    Skills:

    Thorough knowledge of bulk power system operations; understanding of components that comprise the bulk power system; proficiency with bulk power system simulation programs to analyze thermal and voltage constraints; proficiency with PC-based applications to monitor, record, analyze, and report system operating information.
  • Ability to analyze bulk power system operating problems, coordinate solutions, and prioritize/implement those solutions.
  • Ability to react quickly and accurately in emergency situations and guide less experienced operators.
  • Effective written and verbal communication; ability to work with personnel at all levels within ISO-NE, neighboring systems and Participant organizations.
  • Working knowledge of transmission, distribution and generation facilities relaying and interlocking protection; knowledge of training techniques and ability to make effective oral presentations.
  • Thorough knowledge of bulk power system normal and emergency operating criteria, policies, and procedures.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, or the equivalent experience.
