Job DescriptionJoin CDM Smith’s Manchester team and build your career in the water and wastewater industry alongside industry‑leading experts. You will have the opportunity to work on some of the region’s largest and most complex water infrastructure projects, while benefiting from strong technical mentorship, professional development and clear paths for growth. In this role, you’ll contribute to the planning and design of water, wastewater and environmental infrastructure projects, working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and supporting projects from concept through delivery.
WhatYou Will Do
- With general direction, create water and wastewater treatment facilities, water and sewer systems, pipelines, pump stations, remediation sites, solid waste facilities and other engineering designs to meet client project requirements.
- Review draft designs and reports for compliance with federal, state and local regulations and sign off on completed designs.
- Ensure that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.
- Perform site reviews and studies, as needed, to ensure designs are aligned with location specifications and update design requirements as necessary.
- Perform water quality analyses and modeling.
- Contribute to the firm’s TKM by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc.
- Submit technical papers and designs for publishing to technical journals.
- Collaborate with sales staff to create proposals in response to current and potential client requests for proposal (RFPs).
- Review draft proposals for adherence to firm, industry, state, local and federal regulations and best practices.
- Meet with current and potential future clients to review their current and future design needs.
- Attend conferences, symposia, etc. to improve the visibility of the firm’s products and services in collaboration with applicable sales staff.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Provide technical guidance and training to more junior staff, mentor them for future growth within the discipline and firm, and may supervise the work of junior engineers on project work.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
- Professional engineering (PE) license.
- 7 years of related experience; domestic and/or international travel may be required.
- The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities and essential functions of the position, which may vary with workload and project demands.
- Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Knowledge of computer‑assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices.
- Knowledge of engineering principles of design.
- Knowledge of Microsoft business software (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of federal, state and local regulations.
