Gentex Corporation is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead design and development of advanced electronic systems for automotive, aerospace, and safety products. In this role, you will own circuit and PCB architecture, guide component selection, and ensure designs meet performance, reliability, and safety requirements for high-volume manufacturing. You will mentor engineers, drive root-cause analysis, and partner with cross-functional teams in mechanical, firmware, manufacturing, and quality.
The position involves requirements definition, design reviews, validation planning, and support through launch in an innovation-driven, continuous-improvement culture.
Responsibilities
- Lead design and development of complex electronic circuits and systems for automotive and safety products
- Own architecture, schematic, and PCB design for high-volume manufacturing
- Define technical requirements and ensure compliance with industry and customer standards
- Conduct and lead design reviews, FMEAs, and documentation for product release
- Collaborate with mechanical, firmware, manufacturing, and quality teams throughout product lifecycle
- Support validation, testing, and troubleshooting, including root-cause analysis and corrective actions
- Mentor and technically guide junior and mid-level electrical engineers
- Optimize designs for cost, manufacturability, reliability, and performance
- Interface with suppliers for component selection and qualification
- Contribute to technology roadmaps and continuous improvement initiatives
Required Skills
