Sr. Mechanical Engineer

Gentex Corporation seeks a Sr. Mechanical Engineer for our Defense & Aerospace Engineering & Design team. You will lead mechanical design of safety critical electro mechanical systems, enclosures, and mechanisms for ruggedized, mission ready products. Responsibilities include concept development, detailed 3D modeling and drawing creation, tolerance analysis, thermal and structural analysis, DFMEA, DFM/DFA, and qualification testing support. Collaborate closely with electrical, software, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure innovative, reliable, and cost effective designs that meet stringent automotive and aerospace standards and customer requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design of defense and aerospace electro-mechanical products from concept to production
• Create 3
• D CAD models, detailed drawings, and tolerance stacks to automotive/aerospace standards
• Perform structural, vibration, and thermal analyses and support simulation and physical testing
• Drive DFM/DFA, material selection, and component qualification with manufacturing and suppliers
• Own requirements flow-down, design documentation, and configuration control
• Conduct and participate in design reviews, DFMEA, and risk mitigation activities
• Collaborate with electrical, software, quality, and program management teams on integrated designs
• Support prototype builds, test fixture design, and root-cause analysis of test or field issues
• Ensure compliance with relevant military, aerospace, and automotive standards
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of design processes and tools
