Now Hiring:
Director of Finance and Accounting

Hybrid Schedule

I'm working with a well-respected New Hampshire nonprofit that serves low-income individuals and families across the state. They're looking for their next Director of Finance and Accounting.

This is the top finance job in the organization. You'd report to the Executive Director, lead a small accounting and grants team, and handle everything from month-end close to the annual Single Audit and 990. Their funding comes from a mix of federal, local, and foundation grants. If you know federal grant compliance well and you like being the person leadership and the Board count on to explain the finances clearly, keep reading.

What

you'd be doing:
  • Leading the annual budget and giving the ED and Board regular financial updates and forecasts
  • Supervising and developing the accounting and grants staff, and reviewing their work on AP, AR, payroll, journal entries, and grant reporting
  • Running month-end close, monthly and quarterly cost allocations, and payroll oversight
  • Acting as point person for the Single Audit, Form 990, and funder financial reviews
  • Writing and updating fiscal policies so they stay in line with federal regulations, grant terms, and GAAP
  • Preparing Board materials and presenting to the Finance Committee and full Board
  • Working with senior leadership on benefits, insurance, contracts, and HR matters
What they're looking for:
  • Bachelor's in accounting, finance, or a related field (equivalent experience considered)
  • 3 to 5 years working with federal grants under the Uniform Guidance
  • Strong knowledge of federal cost principles, cost allocation, GAAP, and grant budgeting and reporting
  • Nonprofit experience strongly preferred
  • A track record of supervising and mentoring staff
  • A real commitment to serving low-income and marginalized communities
  • Spanish or another language is a plus

They also listed a sense of humor as a requirement, which says a lot about the team.

The details:
  • Full-time
  • Hybrid: 3 days in the office and 2 from home after the first 90 days
  • Salary DOE, plus medical, retirement, life and disability, and generous PTO
