Mental Health Technician – PEP
Psychiatric Emergency Program (PEP) is a 6-bed emergency behavioral crisis unit located within the ED. Elliot Behavioral Health Services is staffed by a team of mental health professionals who tailor both evaluation and treatment services to each individual patient. Our state-of-the-art units provide a wide array of equipment and patient acuity depending on a nurse’s professional interests, certifications, and experience level.
WhoWe Are About the Job
The Mental Health Technician works under the direction of the RN Charge Nurse, and shares responsibility for providing and maintaining a therapeutic milieu through supervised therapeutic activities. The Mental Health Technician facilitates and provides direct care for patients of all ages; supports the therapeutic milieu; ensures the safety and well-being of patients.
What You’ll Do- Participates in conversation, recreational activities, and basic living activities
- Sets limits, confronts counterproductive behavior, and reassures and orients patients
- Performs safety checks and assists in managing therapeutic milieu
- Collaborates with other unit personnel with crisis intervention techniques
- Facilitates and leads community meetings and groups
- Associates degree, Certification in Behavioral Sciences program, or its equivalent coursework required
- 6 months experience in behavioral health setting preferred
- Aggression de-escalation training approved by EHS
