Experience:

Minimum 1 year in geriatric psychiatric inpatient care, medical surgical long-term care or rehabilitation experience preferred.

License:
Valid state nursing license required.

Certifications:

BLS, CPI

Must-Have:
Geriatric psychiatric inpatient unit experience is required.

Description:

Minimum 1 year of experience in geriatric psychiatric inpatient care is required.
Medical Surgical long-term care or rehabilitation experience is strongly preferred.
Travelers with previous experience are not eligible.
Local candidates will receive a rate decrease.
Certified in BLS and CPI is necessary.
Must have experience with geriatric psychiatric inpatient units.

Experience with Foley catheter insertion and management is required.
Wound care experience is essential.
Candidates should be comfortable attending to patients with high care needs, including incontinence care and mobility deficits.

Experience with IV fluids and catheter management is important.
Must be familiar with medication administration in a psychiatric setting.
Unit accepts involuntary patients and utilizes a locked unit.
Seclusion room is available, and 15-minute safety checks or one-on-ones may be required.
The unit is divided into two sections: psychiatric and behavioral, based on cognitive ability and group participation.
Lift equipment is utilized, with training provided.
IV therapy training will also be offered.
Panic alarms are installed for safety.
Ratio of patients is 1:6, with an average daily census of 25.
Weekend coverage is required every other week.
Patients may present with various diagnoses, including unspecified psychosis, dementia with behavioral disturbances, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, and mood disorders.
Interdisciplinary support includes physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services.

Experience with electronic health records, specifically in charting systems, is beneficial.
